How-To Style a Multi-Coloured Top

I woke up a lot earlier than I usually do this morning but it's all good!
I am using that extra time to do some blog posts and then publish for days when I am rushing out of the house.

Speaking of rushing out of the house, the other day, I had to make some quick last-minute decisions because I changed my mind last minute as to what to wear.

I eventually reached out for this multi-coloured top and the next challenge was how to style it.
Naturally busy, one must be careful not to end up looking over the top.

After trying a couple of things, I went with this look- Multicoloured top with shorts, red hat and white shoes.

What I learnt while styling include:

Pick a Colour
Pick a colour or two from the item and work with that. In this case, I picked green and played around with that.
Be careful though not to throw on every single colour on the outfit.

Accessorise
Naturally with accessories you want to go quiet because the top itself is the statement.
If you do have a statement piece you absolutely must wear, stick to just that one piece.

When in doubt, go Neutral
(And remember, Pink is a neutral).
On the real though, reach out for our favourite neutrals to help complement your look perfectly.
I am super partial to white shoes these days but black and nude would work as well.

What's your own tip for styling a multi coloured tip?

Saturday

#ShopTheLook Blue playsuit and Blue heels

I remember when i got this playsuit. It was on a Saturday and was one of those, 'I don't know what i am looking for but when i find it i will know" type buys. I had a budget and in the end, it came down to a white play suit and this one. Unfortunately, the smallest size they had the white in was medium.

Odd fact? The two times i wore the playsuit, my hair choices were all wrong.. Ever had that kind of bad hair-outfit day?

Blue Playsuit from Mango store, Ikeja City Mall, Ikeja Lagos.

Blue shoes by Red Kiss from Sekinah Shoe Gallery in Yaba, Lagos.

#TomboyChic The baggy top trend

Hi guys,
I s.h.a.r.ed a picture of me wearing an oversized t shirt on Instagram the other day and i got quite a number of people asking about it.

When you are a short / small person like i am, getting a tshirt as a gift is always a gamble as most people send large or at best, medium. A medium tee for me is almost a dress so instead of fighting it, when i get a tee i like like the one pictured above, i just wear it.

You can get away with the oversized top look if you follow the where and how.

WHERE: This is obviously not the look for class or an important meeting. It is a look that can be casual or trendy. For example, i rocked this dashiki to Day 2 of a YouTube training.

HOW: You can wear the top on its own with a belt, or pair with shorts.

Flat shoes complete the look for me but if want to go all out, i ditch flats and rock some heels!

Saturday

#StyleSaturday Saved by the striped pants!

Last week, i went for the Stylvo Creatives Connect event.

I wrote about it for Kwesefied here.

My stylist and i had picked out what i was going to wear- oversized white shirt with a maroon jacket. It was chic and definitely not my usual style.
Sadly, the next day, after putting on my make up, i went to get dressed and i just could not wear it because the shirt was too rumpled and i was running late.
So there i was trying not to panic as i watched the clock tick.
I began looking at what i had and trying to think of what to mix and match quickly.

In the end, my eyes landed on these striped pants and it was a bingo moment.
Once i knew i was going with the pants, everything else became easy. I would have liked a white shirt with it and now i know one item i simply must buy next shopping spree.

Next best option was the sleeveless blue shirt i eventually went with.
Although black items tend to be the most versatile items in your wardrobe, dark blue tops come a close third. White is of course number 2.

So i threw it on, tucked it in, grabbed my white shoes and dashed out of the house.

#StyleStory My favourite little black dress

Everyone has that one thing they bought that was just a good buy.
Not only was it a good buy when you actually got it, but it still proves to be a good buy weeks, months and hey, years after!

For me, it is this little black dress from 'Mango'.

I cannot remember why i walked into that Mango store, or when, but boy am i glad i did. I picked up this dress and i think it must have been for some event or the other, which i did wear it to. but since then, it has become the little dress that could.

When the style gurus said every wardrobe needs a little black dress, they never lied. I have worn this dress to a concert, for a date, on a girls' night out, and to work and a press conference.

Do you see now why it is my favourite?

I can dress it up with heels for a party, with bold accessories for a television appearance, keep it simple with white contrasts for a date and rock it with flats for work. This really is the superhero of all clothes in my wardrobe.

Tell me, do you have that one good buy currently in your wardrobe?

#SkincareSaturday Three things to do for your skin this weekend!

Ideally, we should pamper ourselves every day.  Unfortunately, with the hustle and bustle that is Lagos, we usually end up with at best, ...
