#BehindTheScenes My Weekend consisted of Kids, Drinks and Chicken at 2am

I had a good weekend, mostly because of an eventful Saturday.

For the shy and introverted, event invitations raise levels of anxiety. For me, it forces me to slightly panic, then go and either be the life of the party (over-active), or stay in a corner throughout.

If you are shy and introverted, remember to relax (it's just a party), have a few topics of interest just in case people actually want to have a conversation with you, and love what you wear. Ain't nobody got time for discomfort!

I went for the Independence Kids Awards at Federal Palace Hotel (the Marquee). Kids doing exceptional things where celebrated and there was also entertainment provided by a funny Gordons, and SPAN. I sat on with Governor, Jafextra, Sound Sultan and Ali Baba and it was altogether a great time.

I also checked out real quickly, the launch party for a new e-commerce company at Oriental Hotel.

I saw Katung and his wife, and Kevin Chuwang. Fun fact- when I was fresh out of school, Katung was one of the first people I interviewed.

My last port of call was dinner at Debola Williams' house for Zain Asher, Nigerian CNN correspondent. Fun fact? She's Chiwetel Ejiofor's sister!

Debola was a perfect host

It was informal and not only did we dance (especially to 'Pana', but we also played musical chairs (I lost), mimed to songs ('street credibility' was a hit) and talked into the night about dating, working and impact.

The highlight could have been chowing down some chicken at 2a.m as Debola showed himself to be the perfect host but it was actually getting to meet Stephanie Busari who is a CNN correspondent in Nigeria, and finally meet and chat with Arese of 'Smart Money with Arese'.

Let's be honest! Some days, you can't do it. 

Or at least you think you can't.

You can't go to work
You can't go to school
You can't face people
You can't smile.

That's a lot of can'ts.

And here's one more- you can't do that.

In an ideal world, we would "take all the time you need" but as grown ups, we have to get up and go, no matter what we are dealing with and each one of us has something we do to get things going.

I chatted with Dj Spinall on my show this morning and he told me he has a go to song that he plays when he is feeling down but still has to dj at an event. I have that too. Just a set of songs that pump me up.

And that's my first tip for you-

* Have a Go-To
It could be a go to song, Bible verse or poem that leaves you pumped!

* Psych yourself
I am not averse to throwing punches like Ali when I'm in the studio feeling down. I start dancing and psyching myself up. Err, just remember to do this away from people lest they call a doctor..

* Separate the two
They say women are able to compartmentalise better. I say, we all need to learn to separate. Don't bring those emotions from personal life to the workplace, and especially not with colleagues, bosses or clients. I can't be on air crying, dj Spinall can't start playing "my heart will go on" at a wedding just cos he's heartbroken.
Lol.

* Deal with it
I don't want to end this post on a defeatist or 'avoidance' note.
It's important to deal with whatever it is getting you down. If it's something that can be solved, solve it. Whatever it is, deal with it.

Vuzu AMP turns 1 and celebrates with 'Power' and more!

My current favourite channel, Vuzu Amp, threw an anniversary party like no other in Mauritius at the #OnlyTheBest Content Showcase.

First they had Dj Spinall and Dj Neptune playing the freshest and the most memorable jams, then they had Sauti Sol, Diamond and Patoranking performing. It was, 'lit'.

More 'lit' was the fact that DSv’s premier youth brand will be turning up the heat on content across Africa. The channel has recently acquired a number of leading crime, action and comedy series to keep viewers entertained, securing major deals with leading studios like:  HBO, Starz, NBC, Disney and ABC. 

'Power', a crime drama with 50 Cent and Naturi Naughton kicks off October 31st while 'Survivor’s Remorse' is now on. Survivor’s Remorse follows Cam Calloway, a basketball wonder in his early 20s who is suddenly thrust into the limelight after signing a multi-million dollar contract with a professional basketball team in Atlanta. Cam, and an unforgettable group of characters, wrestle with the rewards and pitfalls of newfound stardom, love, and loyalty. 

'How to Get Away With Murder' will finally return in January, and the continuation of NBC's successful serial drama series, ''Heroes', titled, Heroes Reborn', will kick off on the 29th of September.
