Pictures and Fun Facts from Serena Williams' wedding to Alexis Ohanian

I tweeted earlier today that if you read the story of how Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams first met, you would definitely thank fate and fairy-tales.
If you have never read it, read it here.
To summarise, she went down for breakfast at a hotel but when breakfast had closed so she sat by the pool with her team. Alexis had also come downstairs and decided to go to the pool as well. When he sat close to them, her friends tried to get rid of him by telling him there was a rat on the table. On the day they met, she had not known of Reddit, a company he co-founded, and he was not a fan of Tennis.

Imagine that.

Anyways, this beautiful couple got married on Thursday the 17th of November and there begins our fun facts from their day.

- They chose the date, November 17th because that is the date Alexis' mum passed on.

- Serena wore 3 dresses. The first one was by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and the other two were by Versace.

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen

- NIKE customised a pair of sneakers for her to wear which she did after the vows and first wedding dance.

- Guests at the star-studded ceremony include Ciara, Kelly Rowland and her husband, Beyonce, Jay Z and Beyonce's mum, Tina Knowles, Lala Anthony and Eva Longoria and her husband.

- The decor was done by Preston Bailey. ('Funner' fact- My sister adores Preston Bailey)

- The couple did a choreography for their first dance (they danced to 'Tale as Old as Time') and also surprised guests when they danced with the band New Edition.

- Alexis had one last surprise for Serena- a carousel. She reportedly squealed in joy when she saw it.

What is one fun fact you love about the wedding?

#WhatIAmLovingAtTheMoment Being a Youtuber and Pictures from Brazil

I am starting my things i am loving at the moment with food. In particular, one of the most basic things out there- bread and butter. Here is why.

FOOD
My usual breakfast used to be a cup of tea and then a cup of coffee. My first proper meal of the day was usually rice or so at 12pm. These days though, i get in a proper meal before 10am and one of the simplest and the one i love so much right now is my bread with butter.
Now this is not a new thing' it's older than i am. How did i forget about just how tasty this simple meal was though?
I have rediscovered my love for bread, and it is partly due to the sliced bread i get from Chicken Republic. I just pop them in the oven so they slices are warm before i drop the thawed butter on it and voila!
What food are you loving at the moment?

EMOTION
I don't know if i necessarily love this emotion; it is just what i live with now and it is nostalgia.
Lately, i just have a constant love-hate date with nostalgic feelings. For those of you who do not know, my dad passed on the 11th of August and we buried him on the 22nd. Since then, i have had to deal with a lot of emotions but one of the ones that i hold on to the most is just nostalgia. I miss my dad, i think about him a lot, and pictures sometimes help because then i can see him smile again or think about some happy memory we s.h.a.r.ed...

BEING A YOUTUBER
I first opened a youtube channel years ago. I however only began to use it properly a few months ago and this year things have just got even better. I currently show a bit of behind-the-scenes action from my shows on radio, tv and social media, plus selfie and celebrity shoutouts, plus a bit of where i go and what i do. It is a fun, funny channel with a bit of inspiration and how-to thrown in.
Please do check out my videos and subscribe to my youtube channel

THAT WEDDING IN BRAZIL

I went for the wedding in Brazil and i loved it!
This was the first wedding i had gone for where the bride had planned most of the details with a lot of help from Pinterest . Yup!
See? You can get inspiration online and the internet CAN be used for good afterall!
The bride also made some soaps for the wedding guests which smells great!

One of the things that really made me smile was when a group of girls came to my and they were gushing over me. They were all so pretty and for them to tell me i was pretty and to have a great conversation with them was truly special.

See some pictures from my trip below but before you go, please tell me- what are YOU loving at the moment!

#PinkFootball Would you wear black to a wedding like Shakira did to Messi's wedding?

By now, you probably have seen all the pictures from Lionel Messi's wedding to his childhood sweetheart, Antonella Roccuzzo , on Friday in Argentina.

However, for us PinkFootball lovers, we are all about who wore what (and why?).

First off, how gorgeous is the bride? Her train is to die for. She looks beautiful, regal and happy, like every bride should on their big day.

I am fascinated by Shakira's choice though. She wore a black Yolanda Chris dress and looked every inch a diva!

Would you wear black to a wedding? We seem divided over here at the factory with some thinking it sets off a bad vibe. These days, no one still holds on to that black is bad notion do they?

The dress code for Messi and Roccuzzo's wedding was black tie so it appears Shakira was just keeping to the theme. She paired her sheer black dress with some nice stilettos, a clutch, simple hair do and a gorgeous smile!
We think she looks fab but take the poll.
Would you wear black to a wedding?

#Life101 Would you go for "The Next Best Thing"

p.s, i wrote this article a few years ago

You know how you wake up one morning and just KNOW what you want for lunch and so you spend the whole morning waiting for lunch break and thinking of that food and then it's  lunch break and u go to the restaurant excitedly, wait on the queue and once its your turn, u order excitedly, "two wraps of pounded yam, some egusi soup and catfish!" but then the waitress says, "sorry oga, we no get catfish o".
Kai!
If you could you would refuse to eat and wait till there was catfish or go somewhere else  but you have a report to submit so honestly, what can you do but settle for, the next best thing?

Is that how love goes for you?

When growing up, you have an idea of how you want your perfect partner to be; most of these ideas shaped by all those books we read and movies we saw. The reality however does not match. Maybe you meet the perfect person 'but'. But she is igbo and you are hausa. but he is short. but she is not as educated as you would like. but he has a girlfriend.

The 'buts' are endless.

So what do you do?

Society is pressurising you to get married or you will end up at 'Shiloh' (as they like to threaten). Your parents are no longer hinting. It is plain. They want grandchildren. You are a guest at every bridal shower, then baby showers and anniversaries.

At some point, you may think that hey, if you cannot be with the one you love, why not be with the Next Best Thing?

What do you think? Hold out for as long as it takes or go for the next best thing? Let me know what you think below. In the meantime, i wrote a little poem back in school.

"No such thing
as the next best thing
No such 'one'
as 'almost the one'
If i can't give my heart to you
I might as well keep my heart with me!"

#EventWednesday A Week of Weddings, Jidenna and Fooooood

Last week was a full week for me. It was a mix of weddings, premieres, red carpets and foooooooooooooooooooood.

The week technically started Kunbi's wedding since I was there till Monday morning anyways.
Kunbi of April by Kunbi had a fairytale wedding and it was fun dancing all night.

The dancing continued on my radio show with old and new music. Imagine playing all those songs you danced to five, ten, fifteen years ago!

Kel (yes, Kelioooooo) also came on the show to exclusively premiere her brand new song, "Act like you Do", a 90s inspired song. Kel made a promise to me (on video) that she is back, and isn't going quiet again. Okay o!

Vera of Verastic.com, a blogger, content creator, mother and speaker, was my other guest this week, bringing us tips on blogging and niche blogging in particular for my Tip Thursday show. I learnt a lot, including having fun with things you love, even if it's niche you do.

On Thursday, it was 'Jidenna' live with Aurelien, and our friends, Benita and Jonathan. I enjoyed my goofy red carpet interviews with Bolinto for 'On the Carpet' (remixed 'Classic Man'), TraceNaija and Chuey of Pulse Nigeria (danced for him). Jidenna was funnnnn! The full set was enjoyable, even if 'Classic Man' still got the most buzz.

Buzz Friday was too much fun, with Makida and I doing the most; including a 'not Teyana Taylor' video via snapchat. (Don't look. Okay look. No don't).
*sigh*.

I'm eating doughnuts right now so I guess I can't ever hope to be like Teyana!

I can make music though, which I did, with a date with Sess.

And speaking of dates, I had a lovely dinner date with some (powerful) women in media, including Arit Okpo, Toke Makinwa, Lamide Akintobi, Olorisupergal and Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi. Dinner was with Mich ( Google ) and Teju ( Google Nigeria).

See? Full week right?

Here's a surprise i'd want- Taylor Swift showing up at your wedding!

True story- when i got married last year, i was hoping Eminem would show up at my wedding to surprise me.

Well that didn't happen!

One lucky couple however had something similar happen for them- Taylor Swift surprised them at their wedding! How cool is that?  Let me start from the beginning.

Max Singer and Kenya Smith were getting married on Saturday at the Brant Beach Yacht Club in Brant Beach, New Jersey when Taylor showed up! How did she even know about them? Turns out Max's Sister, Ali Singer, had written to Taylor Swift in April, telling her about how Max had married his wife first in their mother's hospital room, as she was dying, so she would not miss out on her son's wedding. She even told Taylor, that the mother and son had danced to the her new song 'Blank Space' in the hospital room, and shortly after the mother died. It must have moved Taylor, because she showed up at the wedding and even led a sing along to the song 'Blank Space'.

She took pictures and then gave them a special card with one line from the song 'Blank Space' written on it:
Taylor Swift Surprises Fan with a Special Performance of 'Blank Space' at His Wedding (and Gave Him a Handmade Gift)| Weddings, Taylor Swift

Hope some people like Funke and Mr A are reading this cos there WILL be an anniversary! So hint hint cough cough!

So if your wish could be granted, which Nigerian celebrity would you like to crash your wedding and surprise you?

A Tale of Two Dresses... and a flashback to the first

Us tomboys live a simple life.

Jeans? Check. T shirt? Check. A jacket or two? Check. The occasional outside-our-comfort-zone outfit? Double check.

But when tomboys get married, we have to decide if we want that tomboy life and perhaps rock pants to our wedding, or if we want to enjoy a day of being fully outside the box.

I went with a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

(P.s, for those who don't want to wear dresses, Solange Knowles wore a great outfit for her wedding.)

The first ceremony (in Lagos last year),  was more traditional so I went with champagne. Mai Atafo created magic after my consultation with him which was professional and comforting. He really knows his onions when it comes to wedding outfits. (He also made two of the grooms suits).
I told him I wanted something long that could go short so we did this gorgeous dress with a long skirt and a peplum.
Started long, ended short.
Parfait.

My third dress was a gift from a friend and my most comfy. Sasha makes beautiful outfits for the everyday girl (affordable glamour) and she told me she also likes making wedding dresses so win win!!!

My second consultation was for my third dress and was with Yemi Oshunkoya of Kosibah.
Kosibah dresses are easy to spot and always elegant. I knew this would be the one where I had to be a lady and also not breathe. I kid I kid. Breathe once in a while.
Yemi was quite relieved that i was going for a classic dress because he said he was a bit worried i would want something crazy. Na. We don't do crazy couture!
He sketched a beautiful design which was picture perfect and I was sold!

I kept my accessories simple for all, and my shoes were definitely a reflection of my personality.

#SkincareSaturday Three things to do for your skin this weekend!
