#TosynTravels An Evening with Disney!

I am feeling a bit like a mum who has kids and never wants to say which one is her favourite. But if you threatened to take away all Disney music i would have to say the Disney experience was one of the best at the #OnlyTheBest content showcase in Mauritius.

Basically, Disney Africa welcomed 90 journalists from across Africa to their first ever showcase to media from the continent, at this year’s Multichoice Africa Content Showcase Extravaganza. It started on Thursday 3 September when we received a Disney Movie ticket which gained us entry to the special outdoor screening, set under the stars on the lawns of the idyllic Outrigger Beach Resort in Mauritius.

First we got our own Disney picnic basket and blankets, full of delicious treats and filling food, then we made our way to the seating area, replete with comfortable chairs and loungers. Once the Disney fans were settled, the vast outdoor screen lit up and the evening’s festivities were well under way.

A welcome speech by Deirdre King, Head of Marketing for The Walt Disney Company Africa, preceded the screening of two animated shorts. The first, the Academy Award-nominated Get a Horse, featured Disney favourites like Mickey, Minnie, Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow, in a laugh-a-minute romp across the countryside. The second animated short, Disney•Pixar’s Partly Cloudy, beautifully tells the tale of where delivery storks get their infant cargo. The main feature was Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time.

Disney showcased Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, as it perfectly showcased their theme for the Showcase – Globally Connected, Locally Relevant – as key sequences in the film were shot on the African continent in 2014. What is even more exciting is that sequences of the next Marvel super hero filmCaptain America 3: Civil War, will also be shot in Africa!

Other local initiatives across the continent include:
o    The dubbing of the hit Disney Junior series Doc McStuffins, in Swahili for East Africa.
o    Desperate Housewives Africa
o    Collaborations on two Fashion Halo Projects in conjunction with SA Fashion Week:
o    Local cameo roles like Jeremy Mansfield in Toy Story 3 and Unathi Msengana in Doc McStuffins

Also newsworthy;   Violetta; the first ever South African Disney Channel local production, with 3 local presenters and two Disney-produced projects (The film Queen of Katwe, starring Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o and ABC television series Of Kings and Prophets).

And if you have nieces like me or younger ones, then Disney has something for you wiht Disney Junior which airs on DStv channel 309 and GOtv Plus channel 60.

Highlights across the Disney Junior channel include animated television series, Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins. Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto and Daisy all join Mickey in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and animated series such as Gummi BearsChip ‘n DaleDucktales with classic Disney movies AladdinCinderella and more.

Wednesday

#TBDaily x #OnlyTheBest There are mosquitoes in Mauritius and other cool Day 2 stories!

This post has to start with that revelation.

When you get on a plane in Naija, you assume you're leaving traffic, NEPA and yes, MOSQUITOES behind. I got bitten by two mosquitoes yesterday, or the same mosquito bit me twice. Either way, it was an interesting welcome. It could not however overshadow the main Welcome Dinner- a Night of a Thousand Stars. First off was the Walk of Fame with our names in stars...

Then there was the paparazzi screaming my name and scrambling to take my picture. A selfie here and an autograph there (ok fine I was just giving my email address out) and I was up for a great night.

Even the food was for #OnlyTheBest

Had to take a quick selfie with Banky W

I ended up crashing early because I knew the next day would be a long, fun one.

Theo Erasmus, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, Tim Jacobs and David Booth

Breakfast, check! Then we had a Multichoice Roundtable where people had various questions like why there's no Pay Per View, how come GoTV was not available in certain countries, why Supersport had moved to a premium bouquet in others and more.

Considering that I had been remarking with my friends from Kenya that we (Nigerians) don't seem to know what goes on in Kenya, it was nice to hear from Multichoice that they will look into making content from one region available in all (eg, East African Content). Amen. Amen. Amen.

We had lunch, bumped into the stars like Stonebwoy and Basketmouth, then went off for Sony TV's take on the Amazing Race.
Naija Meets Ghana! Stonebwoy

My bandanna indicated I was in Team Red; not a bad team to be in. The race involved downloading an app, answering a question, getting the clue then going off! I ran past Korede Bello at some point but I had my eye on the prize. Did i win? Find out here- Sony TV takes us on an Amazing Race!

Not the first time i have been in a Team Red!

Running but had to take a picture of Korede Bello

I did win a Mojito though!

*sigh*
This Nigerian dey carry last o. Or at least almost.

I'm back in my room resting now after a session with Supersport (Caroline moderated and she was so good!).

Join me here tomorrow for what else I'm getting up to but get instant details via my social media- 'tosynbucknor'.

#SkincareSaturday Three things to do for your skin this weekend!

Ideally, we should pamper ourselves every day.  Unfortunately, with the hustle and bustle that is Lagos, we usually end up with at best, ...
