#SPEECHgirl Excerpts of my speech at #Becoming conference

I have just come back from the "Becoming" conference organised by The Beautified Network. The Beautified Network is headed by Funto Ibuoye, an amazing woman committed to bringing out the queen in every woman
.
Well I am certainly chuffed that they thought me 'becoming' of this conference and I was happy to do it. It was also great to be at an event alongside Bola Balogun and Omoyemi Akerele.

While I can't give the speech word for word, I do have some points I made below. Let me know what you think.

 1. My journey to becoming I grew up an introvert, and also a typical last born. This meant I read everything, was creative and a bit of a free spirited rebel. These are things that have helped me now in every career path I have chosen. What you need to 'become' is already there in you.

 2. Talents! The parable of the talent teaches me two things. One is whether you have one talent or ten, you must use that which you have. The other is you must do something. The failure of the man in the parable of the talents was not that he had just one talent, it was that he didn't use his talent. If you have a talent, use it. Use some for business / career, use some for passion, use some as your main focus etc.

 3. Be a Better You Everyone says 'be yourself'. This is great. But I want to be a better me. it's
important to know yourself; your strengths and weaknesses. Focus more on your strengths and positives and downplay the weaknesses while you work on them. Study, learn, grow and be a better you.

 4. SHINE Growing up, I was allowed to shine. And even at Queens' College, I was taught to be a queen. Things like that help you because the rest of society is trying to get you to hide yourself. They say you're too smart, too outspoken, ahn ahn only you. Well. My challenge to you is to shine!!! O

  2. Hello Tee-Buck,

I sincerely appreciate the depth of this post. I agree with you regarding Talents, indeed, "...you must do something". It reminds me of a quote I once saw, “I know God gifted me with this talent and it is my duty to exercise and hone it”.

I am always thankful for my DIY sewing skills and I am very passionate about "doing something" with it :-)

Your feature on 'The Kink and I' blog was very interesting to read.

    Warm regards!
