#OAP101 4 Ways to Stay Fresh and Credible as a Media Host
Hello fresh, aspiring or established media personality,
It is a beautiful new week and I am writing this, sipping my tea, and thinking about how to keep being fresh and credible.
The truth is, there are 2 things you want to avoid on this journey- being thought of as stale, and being thought of as fake, as in, a source of fake news.
Some of the ways to stay fresh and credible are:
- Verifying your Sources
This is one of the most established tenets of journalism and I still get surprised when even interns or students on Industrial Attachment feel comfortable presenting me with stories, or worse, going on air with stories based on, 'People say...'
Investigative Journalism even has higher standards but whether you went to media school or not, as with life, so with news- check, recheck, double check.
- Consuming Different Kinds of Content
If you are into Music, you can still get some content from Sports. If you love News, Fashion may surprise you.
By watching and listening to other kinds of content, you stay updated and easily adaptable.
- Checking out Trends
Social Media platforms are making things a lot easier for us these days as they have things like 'Explore' (Instagram), 'Trending' (Twitter) and more.
A simple daily glance at online trends can help ensure you keep up with what everyone is talking about.
- Gisting with People
Sometimes, just a good kickback with people provides a world of fresh news, stories and talking points for you.
By listening to them and enjoying what they say, you get an insight into what people are excited, worried or lackadaisical about.
This can help you immensely.
What do you think of these tips? How do you stay fresh and credible as a media host from your end?
s.h.a.r.e with me.

#WhoISaw Selfies with Ayana!
Last week I for some reason, decided Wednesday was a great day to walk everywhere. I walked to all my meetings for that day!
Well, during one of my walks, look who i bumped into- Jibola who i call Jybbs or Ayana.
Jybbs and I first met on Facebook when she saw my status looking for brands to partner with for my Jeans for Genes show.
She was then the manager of Swe Bar, and from our first conversation, we became friends.
I really love her because she has the best heart ever and I hope people remember to put her name anytime they talk about Entertainment in Naija.

Ahead of the World Cup, Nigeria hires a second fitness coach
Nigeria will be looking to strengthen their team with more hands (or feet) on deck, ahead of the FIFA 2018 World Cup, especially following the results of the World Cup Draw.
In a group where our opponents are Croatia, Iceland and
Messi, sorry, Argentina, we will have a lot of work to do.
While on paper one
can conclude that Argentina and Nigeria will end up top two, no one is counting
Iceland out, especially after the last Euros; and although the last friendly
between Nigeria and Argentina ended with a surprise win for the Eagles, the
stakes will be much higher in Russia.
Gernot Rohr is therefore looking to use all the help he can
get. He recently disclosed that his scouts are working hard to ensure only the
best make his provisional 30-man team.
He is also hiring Bernard Gines, who
worked with him at OGC Nice between 2002 and 2005, as a second fitness coach
for the Super Eagles. This is in addition to the physical trainer, Goal-Keeper
trainer and a Video Analyst already hired.
It is not just
‘man’power he is leaning on though as the Eagles are set to train with
‘FieldWiz’.
FieldWiz is an application that accurately measures the
physical contribution of a player in training or a match using parameters like
miles covered, reaction and speed.
#OAP101 Branding yourself as a media personality; Part 1
Hi all
I am back with the OAP 101 podcasts and here is this week's podcast.

I am back with the OAP 101 podcasts and here is this week's podcast.
Listen-
To summarise,
I spoke about branding yourself and why you need to, plus three things to remember.
I spoke about branding yourself and why you need to, plus three things to remember.
- Be yourself
As an individual, you have a combination of nature and nurture that makes you different. This is what draws us to you.
- Decide what you want
When your name is mentioned, what do you want people to see? Much as if i were to mention Beyonce, Kaylah, even Gala (lol). What comes to your mind when these names are mentioned? In the same way you have a clear audio-visual identity for these names, you want the same for yourself.

A little exercise- write down the top 5 words you want people to think of when they hear your name.
- Consistently communicate this identity
Now that you have your five words, it is time to communicate this to us. From your show, to your social media, to your presence, etc, let us see who you are.
EXERCISE: Can you think of three people and what you associate them with? Tell us below. Thanks.

#Vlog 'Day One' or 'One Day"?
Vlog time and in this week's edition of "And then there was Friday", i speak about how procrastination can end up being a dream stealer.
When it comes to all the things you have purposed to do, will you keep saying, "one day" or are you going to make this, "day one"?

#LaitAndAbout KSA's Fender Guitar Auctions For N52.1million? Wawu!
Yes o! All roads led to Federal Palace Hotel on Sunday, December 11th, for the legend, King Sunny Ade's Sunny on Sunday concert; a concert that was the grand "wrap-up" concert for the month long celebration of KSA's 70th birthday.
Before I s.h.a.r.e details of my "wawu" highlight of the night ( KSA's Fender Guitar that was auctioned for N52.1million ), let me share highlights of my moments on the red carpet.
I had the #TosynCam so first thing i did was let celebrity guests take #TosynCamSelfies. Check them out via @TosynsBlog on Instagram.
From Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt to quirky Lala Akindoju; from the selfie Queen, Toke Makinwa to Mimi Onalaja, Debola Williams, Darey, Iyanya and Emma Nyra.
The Sunny on Sunday concert had two fun zones - The Temple Balmoral Hall were the main event happened and the VVIP lounge where multi-instrumentalist Ed Izycs serenaded the guests.
Now, to my highlight - the starting bid price for the Fender Guitar was N9million and the bidding got up to N52.1million when an unidentified individual made the final bid.
KSA's glittering Fender guitar was designed by Nigerian visual artist, writer and photogragher Victor Ehikhamenor and the auction was handled by Dr. Jogun Onabanjo, a certified auctioneer.
The event was hosted by actress Funke Akindele, OAP Lolo of wazobia Fm and comedian, Tee A. Artistes who performed were Tiwa Savage, Onyeka Onwenu, Sir Shina Peters, Niniola, Iyanya, Terry Apala, Darey and Awilo Logomba.

#TBReview et #Giveaway Mara Cruiz Organic Haircare
A few weeks ago, I got some hair products from Mara Cruiz Organics. We even did a giveaway and there's another to come today!
I wanted to however do a quick show and tell of each product in the package I got (and will be giving out).
I have left my hair as is for quite a bit now and love using products best for it. My usual routine is for busy days, some hair cream and brushing the edges. When I have a little more time, I mosturise more thoroughly.
At the weekends, I tend to shampoo (not every weekend as you should never wash your hair more than it needs), condition, cream and mosturise.
At the weekends, I tend to shampoo (not every weekend as you should never wash your hair more than it needs), condition, cream and mosturise.
Here is where Mara Cruiz comes in handy. The range of products is so varied that there is something for every time frame. Five minutes? Use the hair cream. Bit of time? Use the hair mayonnaise (or growth oil) and hair cream. And of course on a 'spoil your hair day', use them all.
The products come in mainly see-through clear plastic bottles (apart from the cream and mayonnaise). I'd have preferred neater packaging with a different font and branding to make it more attractive.
Mosturising Natural Shampoo
This has a really good smell, probably because of the black soap, and I love it. It also contains olive oil which is a plus for me.

Nourishing Rinse-Out Conditioner
Easy to apply and contains coconut oil (another plus!).

Hair Mayonnaise
I haven't really used this one, first because I tend to forget, and secondly because having to leave in for twenty minutes before rinsing out needs more scheduling than I can handle.
It will however be great for those of you with really tough hair.

Hair Growth Stimulator Oil
This is my favourite. First because oils are generally my favourite, be they for hair or body, but also because anything that stimulates growth gets a pass!

It can be sprayed unto your hand or directly into the hair which also makes it convenient and easy to apply, and is infused with loads of great herbs like Rosemary and Sage. Lastly, it's easy to carry which means it will be easy to pack!
'Parfait'!

Mosturising Hair Cream
Thick and easy to apply, it may however be too powerful for some noses.

In conclusion, the Mara Cruiz Organics range is broad and therefore provides something for everyone and every schedule. My favourite is still the oil but I would recommend each item for different needs.

#FashionFriday Style it like a Soul Chic
Okay let’s be honest, it’s not easy being a soul chick here because we do more classic styles and everyone is afraid of breaking out of the norm.
But, if you find yourself drawn to a certain style, here’s a guide on how.
Earthy Colours
Soul sisters know that browns, leaf green, leaf yellow and other shades of earthy colours transform you immediately.
If you want to try the soul chic look, start with some earthy colours.

Skirts must flare
What is it with soul and skirts? Skirts are great for loads of looks including gypsy, corporate and even edgy but on a soul sister, a flared skirt makes you look instantly stylish.

Accessorise
When it comes to accessorising like a soul chic, more is more.
One bangle is never enough. Pile it on. One neck piece? Who are you? A minimalist?
Soul is about the layers, especially when it comes to accessories so go crazy.

Don’t neglect your hair
From headwraps to bows and buns, the soul chic’s style mantra is “I must, I must, I must not forget my hair”.

#PinkFootball News: Good Night Big Boss
It is one of those things you hope will later turn out to be a rumour but alas it wasn't.
Stephen Keshi passed on in the early hours of Wednesday morning, just a few months after losing his wife in December 2015. They got married when he was nineteen, one year before he joined the Nigerian National team. It must have been a terrible loss for him.
He was a brilliant coach with excellent leadership skills that earned him the name Big Boss. He managed the Nigerian, Togolese and Malian national teams during his coaching career. He guided the Togolese team to their only World cup appearance till date and won the African Nation’s cup with Nigeria in 2013.
He was the second only person in the world to win the African Nations Cup as a player in 1994 and as a coach in 2013, for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, a feat he will be remembered for. His legacy lives o superb coach, spirited and principled man..

Stephen Keshi is survived by four children and his mother. May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort during this difficult time. As at the time of going to press, his body was at the hospital in Benin for an autopsy.
Good Night Big Boss.

A few good men and one bad system
So this phrase, 'a few good men' crept up on me when I read a tweet praising two of our current ministers. The 'tweep' said Buhari has at least two ministers who know what they are doing.
So I thought, "maybe all we need is a few good men".
But can that work though?
I told a friend once that if a good man enters an organisation where corruption reigns supreme, that good man will eventually get frustrated. He will be fighting a losing battle because people will hate and even sideline him.
Like take how when we are anywhere but here we tend to throw things in the bin, queue, respect privacy and do better than the second we land at Murtala Mohammed airport. Then suddenly we are throwing tissue on the floor and jumping queues.
I think bad systems will ruin good men, few or not. So Nigeria really needs systems. Be it in civil service or entertainment or governance. A few good men get frustrated in a big bad system...
What do you think?

#EventWednesday Coloured Myself Rad last weekend!
Last weekend i ran.
Okay i lie.
I jogged a little, walked a lot and danced a bit.
But it was all fun and it felt goooood!
It was for the first ever #ColourMeRad5k in Lagos, Nigeria and it kicked off from Bar Beach at 4pm on Sunday January 31st with Freedom Park as the destination.
The turn out was impressive and everyone looked colourful- painted nails, running gear and all.
Colour me Rad is a 5kilometre race and is loosely based on the Hindu Festival of Colours. As such, participants are sprayed with colour at the start, at the final stop and various points in between.
I was ready for all the colours and by the time i got to Freedom Park (last but for a few kids and their parents behind me), i was more colourful than the rainbow.

#SPEECHgirl x Short Story Sunday "One of those Days'
He heard the alarm, but that only made him
want to smash the damn thing and sleep some more. He had actually done things
like that in the past which was why his last girlfriend had bought him three
different alarm clocks, and placed them all around his room; there was no way
he could get at them, put them off, and still go back to bed. Damn pretty women
with brains.
He got up reluctantly and put them all off
and then sat at the edge of the bed for a bit trying hard to will himself to
take the shower. Last night’s activities must have been really been something because for some reason, he dozed off again! This time, with no
alarms at the ready to wake him up, the next time he woke up was with a sinking feeling- he was late.
Jide looked at the time. 7.30am. That
wasn’t good because in Lagos, the difference between 6a.m and 7a.m was like... well let's just say he was in shit creek with no paddle.
Someone stirred and he looked at the reason
he was late. Well, even if he got a warning, it would be well worth it, for if
Jide Omisade had one weakness, it was pretty girls with beautiful bodies, and
wit.
The shower didn’t take him that long, and
neither did dressing up.Today was easy, he was going to work, meeting with a
client, then having drinks with another one of his friend’s that was betraying
bachelorhood; so, his light blue shirt with chinos, black belt, tie and shoes,
and some ‘Old Spice’ to charm the client. It was now 8a.m but he was sure with some
creative thinking (he’d blame a flat tyre), and some creative driving (he was
known as the king of 360 degrees turns right from secondary school), he could
still get away with it.
As for the vision in satin on her bed, he
knew she would let herself out and not call him till the next time her
dead-beat boyfriend went out of town and she needed ‘to talk’ And talking was
one thing he was great at.
So wrapped up was he in his plans that he
forgot not to count his chicks till they were hatched. There, right in front of
him was karma punishing him for even thinking of lying to his boss. Not only
did he have TWO flat-tyres with no jack in his car, but he now remembered his
happy and alcoholic self letting his brother ‘borrow’ his spare tyre the night
before. “Shit!” What to do? He had to think fast. He made a few calls, but he
was just too late and his colleagues living in that area had left already. Well
at least, he was sure of a ride back. He checked his physical cash, paltry. No
cab driver carried a pos machine around that’s for sure. He quickly
legged it to the nearest bank and tried the A.T.M. Damn! What was up today? The
damn machine was faulty! What was he going to do?
He stood there thinking. He could try to
get to another bank, or, he could…
“Yaba! Yaba!”
…He could get into that bus. Okay, the last
time he got into a bus was when he was in his first year at university and he
now worked in a company where you were judged based on what car you drove and
whether your shoes where by some designer with an unpronounceable name so
really, bus-hopping was frowned upon. Sometimes you’re desperate though. And
sometimes, you look into the bus and you see a pretty girl with long hair
sitting by the window, with the seat beside her vacant and suddenly, your
choice is made. He’d just get down and walk the rest of the way to work; no one
would ever know.
He got in and headed straight where his
brain, well the other one anyway, led him to, right beside her. He only hoped
to God that her voice would match her face, and wow, see that cleavage. Maybe
it was divine that he had a flat. “Don’t you just hate Monday mornings?” He
prayed she would give a half-decent reply. Even if she wasn’t witty, charming
or funny, all he needed was some indication that she wasn’t all bad. “Personally, I think Sunday evenings suck. It’s like
Mondays become the anti-climax, and every girl loves a climax”.
That’s it, he was getting married.
She was not only funny, but also a good
listener, rare for girls. He told her about how late he was for work and why he
was on that bus, and she told him nothing, but listened and smiled a lot. And
the journey would have been perfect had it not been for that one little snag.
He wasn’t sure where they were exactly, but
he was sure that he hated the next words he heard. “Eyin te mi, oya, ibon re
o”. He heard the words, and could see like five guys suddenly standing up and
brandishing weapons, but it didn’t sink in properly until the slaps began.
“I don’t believe this, are they for real?”
He asked her stupidly. Wasn’t it girls that asked stupid questions?
“It would seem, they look serious” She
replied needlessly.
He felt the need to protect her, impress
her. He leaned over and whispered, “I have a tazer you know, and we will be
fine”
“And lucky me, I know some judo”
“You seem pretty calm for someone who is
about to get robbed, or even worse.”
“Well, I have been known to work well under
pressure. Besides, you haven’t noticed, have you?
“Noticed what?”
She leaned into him and whispered right
back. “I’m with them”.
And then the lights went off.
“Oga, get up! Get up!”
He could hear voices. Some were directed at
him, but others were just all around. He had a splitting headache but struggled
to open his eyes. He was on the ground somewhere, and people were staring at
him; he also seemed to have, at some point, been drenched with water. At least
he hoped it was water.
“E don open im eyes oh”, he heard as some
people left, while others gathered still. “Oga. You well?” a young boy asked
him. Then he remembered everything. “Wetin happen?” He asked. This was not the
time for his Prep School English; some good ol’ pidgin was needed. “Na one
chance oh! E be like say you enter one chance”
Ah yes, of course. The bus, the thugs, and
the beautiful wench with the uppercut, or whatever that was she had done to
him. He looked around, nothing. Checked his pockets. Nothing. They had taken
everything; his watch, wallet, shoes…everything.
“Make you try stand oga, make you go see
Doctor”
.
“Thank you” He mumbled as he got on his
feet, his head still throbbing. A policeman came towards him. “Your lucky shine
o, na only you dem drop, dem come drive off again.” The police-man seemed more
interested in the gist than in say, maybe asking questions like how many they
were and where the bus was headed. Whatever, he wasn’t surprised, and he was
kinda grateful; I could be worse, they could hold him for questioning.
“Abi you go come give statement? You
remember anyone of dem?”. Tall, white shirt and grey pants, red lipstick and a
killer smile. “I no see dem well o, make I go hospital, e be like say my back
dey pain me, as dem trow me…” There was no way he was going to a police station
in Nigeria. No one was asking yet, but what if there was the lone smart officer
who would wonder, “How come you were the only one they let off the bus?”. He
could hazard a guess and he foolishly thought to himself about how he might not
have minded if she had held on to him for a few hours and ‘tortured’ him. But
wait, what if her other friends, them with the biceps and guns, wanted in on
the action as well? So, no statements, all he lost was money and shoes; oh but
those shoes!
He had to call his brother. Funny,
the policeman actually lent him his phone, so he called his brother. Thirty minutes
and several pure waters later, he was in a car, being driven to the clinic, and
then, he would go to work. Yeah, he might have just faced an ordeal but where
he worked, unless you were dead or buried alive, you showed up at work and
recuperated there.
The nurse at the hospital was actually
really pretty. Dare he hope..?
“O what a pitied, they ‘ave ‘urt you”, she
said. If they were pretty, they didn’t speak well. If they were pretty and
spoke well, they were armed robbers.
Go figure.
“Wetin be dis?” She asked as she helped him
take his shirt off. He had not felt it before but there it was, his sim wrapped
in a small piece of paper, taped to his shirt. He took it and out it in his
pocket, and then he noticed there was a note on the note.
“Get a new line, maybe I’ll give you a
call. I have your card after all”.
He didn’t know if that was good or bad, but
somehow, that just made his brain tingle.
Yes,
the other brain.

#TBDaily x #OnlyTheBest There are mosquitoes in Mauritius and other cool Day 2 stories!
This post has to start with that revelation.
When you get on a plane in Naija, you assume you're leaving traffic, NEPA and yes, MOSQUITOES behind. I got bitten by two mosquitoes yesterday, or the same mosquito bit me twice. Either way, it was an interesting welcome. It could not however overshadow the main Welcome Dinner- a Night of a Thousand Stars. First off was the Walk of Fame with our names in stars...
Then there was the paparazzi screaming my name and scrambling to take my picture. A selfie here and an autograph there (ok fine I was just giving my email address out) and I was up for a great night.

Breakfast, check! Then we had a Multichoice Roundtable where people had various questions like why there's no Pay Per View, how come GoTV was not available in certain countries, why Supersport had moved to a premium bouquet in others and more.

Considering that I had been remarking with my friends from Kenya that we (Nigerians) don't seem to know what goes on in Kenya, it was nice to hear from Multichoice that they will look into making content from one region available in all (eg, East African Content). Amen. Amen. Amen.
We had lunch, bumped into the stars like Stonebwoy and Basketmouth, then went off for Sony TV's take on the Amazing Race.
My bandanna indicated I was in Team Red; not a bad team to be in. The race involved downloading an app, answering a question, getting the clue then going off! I ran past Korede Bello at some point but I had my eye on the prize. Did i win? Find out here- Sony TV takes us on an Amazing Race!
I did win a Mojito though!
