#REVIEW Casper and Gambinis' delivery service is my best experience so far!

Do you have a favourite place to order take aways from?

Sometimes i feel like ordering food is a 'my order is in Your Hands o Lord' type of gamble in Lagos because these are some of the experiences i have had (and don't like).
- Ordering at 2pm. Then at 4pm being told what i ordered was not available.
- Ordering from a restaurant i had eaten at before, only to find out their delivery food somehow lost taste and presentation in transit
- Getting my food (and the big bill), but no cutlery...

This is why, first time i ordered from Caspers & Gambini , i kept saying, "o my i should have done this sooner".

What i look for in a good delivery is
- the ease of ordering ( i ordered via HelloFood)
- politeness and punctuality
- well packaged meals
- food that looks AND tastes good

That is where Casper & Gambini shines.

My chicken wings and salad arrived in SEPARATE branded packaging. The order came with utensils, salt and napkins.

How did the food taste?
It was delicious! It was so delicious that i finished the salad at one sitting, and once i tasted one chicken wing, there was no saving anything for later.

I am going to order from them again for sure. By the way, while researching them, i saw that SisiYemmie had eaten at the restaurant twice before and she had done a  review

Isoken the Movie Premiere...Glitz, Glam, and a very good film

Vibrant. Regal. Beautiful.
Words not only to describe the Premiere of the movie ‘Isoken,’ but the film itself. The theme of the night was "African Royalty," so the Landmark centre was full of men in traditional outfits from different Nigerian regions, those who rocked unconventional trad-inspired looks, like Akah Nnani in an aṣọ-òkè jacket, and then there were the ladies. The ladies did not come to play! From the director Jade Osiberu’s gown made of a pink shimmery aṣọ-òkè, cast member Damilola Attoh’s Black dress topped off with a beautiful head tie, guests in traditional coral beads and head-dresses and full on geles with ìró and buba, there was so much fashion eye-candy, I was overwhelmed. I love a good theme!
Once in the hall, there were performances by Femi Leye, new kids on the block Bemyoda and Falana, both of whom are in the movie, and the legendary Sir Victor Uwaifo, who showed us some moves I didn’t even know a 70 year old could have! All this while enjoying a really yummy dinner and drinks. Food is bae, and so is good music; 5 stars to the organizers on that.

After performances and a speech from the director, Jade Osiberu, we settled in to watch the film. Isoken is the story of a 34 year old successful single woman with younger married siblings, whose overbearing mother is pressuring her to get married. Sound familiar? Yup.

The film itself was thoroughly enjoyable. Dakore Egbuson as the lead, with brilliant comedy from Funke Akindele-Bello as her friend Agnes and Lydia Forson as Kuku, did a fantastic job showing how a lady can have it together in every way, yet still be treated like an alien if she hasn’t had kids or gotten married by a certain age. Acting veterans Patrick Doyle and Tina Mba were great as Isoken’s parents, while TV presenter and media darling Bolanle Olukanni made her solid film debut as Isoken’s younger sister.

This isn’t meant to be a review, and I don’t want to give away the whole plot, but this film is one you will enjoy. You will laugh. You will see in the characters someone you know, or maybe even yourself; you will love the beautiful costumes, kudos to Dami of Fierce and Modish for a fantastic job styling the movie, and you will have more than a few jaw dropping moments.
After the movie, the cast and director walked out to a standing ovation, and then we got down to the after party! Who doesn’t love a good after-party, right? Free flowing Moet and small chops plus good music? I almost forgot it was Sunday night!

All good things must come to an end, so a few selfies and some dance moves later, I called it a night.

I will definitely go see it again when it comes out on the 16
th of June, and I hope you do too. Not just because it’s a Nigerian movie, but because it is a well told, well shot film, which I think is another feather in the “New Nollywood” cap.

Monday

#MCM Which OBFW character would Illrymz date in real life? We have the scoop!

Morning all,

I am sitting here while i watch the weather trying to decide if it wants to be really sunny or cool.

It's Monday so it's time to stalk, sorry, check in, on some of my favourite people ever. Today i want Illrymz to sit down and answer some questions.

Ill (as i like to call him) is, according to Wikipedia, " a Nigerian television host, radio personality, writer, producer, Event MC, artiste and former model. He is the Creator of the sensational daily Instagram news show #SELFIENEWS and CEO of Contagious Collective, A creative media content company that has produced hit syndicated radio shows such as: Radio Outloud with Nokia & ILL, The JUMIA WHAT AM I? Radio Show, Nunu Super Kids, and 0809ja_Radio, To name a few. Popularly known as the #GQmc, Illie's Television Credits include; The Host of Nigerian Idol, Co-Host of StarGist, Soundcity, and Nigezie. 'In 2016 he became the host of the Coke Studio Radio Hour produced out of Los Angeles USA. 'Nigerian Idol"

Na wa o!

Only him?

Ill also plays 'Charles', which by the way was his acting debut, on 'Our Best Friend's Wedding, Read my review of the show here.

TOSYN BUCKNOR: It's Monday and i know there are a lot of people that dislike Mondays. Do you?
ILLRYMZ: I Don't dislike Mondays! I don't dislike any day I make money! Lol

TB: Lol, i feel you!
I have just watched the most recent 'selfie news' show which is honestly just laugh out loud funny. When did you think of it and where do you see it going in years to come?
ILL:  I created #SelfieNews on holiday last year, because we live in the social media age and I had to be more active on social. But I don't want to post cars and watches and money like everyone else. I want my posts to stay true to my brand. I'm an entertainer so I want people to follow me and get entertained. It's been great so far and I'm looking at #SelfieNews becoming a mobile service and fully functional website for news content.

TB:  In 'Our Best Friend's Wedding', your character starts going through his black book to find 'the one'. First off, do YOU feel any pressure to, like him, get married and secondly, which of the exes or best friend in the series would you fall for in real life?

ILL: Lol I'm in no rush to get married in real life. I've got a lot to achieve still, but who knows... anything can happen. Hmmm what ex or best friend from the show could I fall in love with in real life? Ahh that's hard cos they are my friends in real life. Tooo awkward 😂😂

TB: (this is where i throw in a 'hian' and roll my eyes). Okay fine, let's talk advice. Who has given you the best advice ever and what did they say?
ILL: The best advice i ever got was from Jesus! Asides that, uhm my Parents...
My mum said, " believe in yourself you are destined for greatness" and my dad said "money isn't everything".  I didn't understand this advice when I was younger, but now it's a little clearer.

TB: What's one thing people don't know about you?
ILL: One thing about me people don't realize is that I'm a super shy guy! It's hard to believe but it's the truth. A lot of people perceive my private nature for arrogance. They can't be further from the truth.

TB: I think i can see that. I may suffer from the same issue. Lol. Anyways Ill, thanks a lot for taking time out to chat with us!
ILL: Thanks for the interview! Let me be your MCM every week lol promise I'm going to the gym 😂

(Follow @illrymz on twitter and instagram and look out for selfie news and 'our best friend's wedding')

#EventWednesday Coloured Myself Rad last weekend!

Last weekend i ran.

Okay i lie.
I jogged a little, walked a lot and danced a bit.

But it was all fun and it felt goooood!

It was for the first ever #ColourMeRad5k in Lagos, Nigeria and it kicked off from Bar Beach at 4pm on Sunday January 31st with Freedom Park as the destination.

The turn out was impressive and everyone looked colourful- painted nails, running gear and all.

Colour me Rad is a 5kilometre race and is loosely based on the Hindu Festival of Colours. As such, participants are sprayed with colour at the start, at the final stop and various points in between.

I was ready for all the colours and by the time i got to Freedom Park (last but for a few kids and their parents behind me), i was more colourful than the rainbow.

#TBDaily x #Event Mavin Records concert this Christmas!!!

I can tell you guys for sure now- December is going to 'be lit'. As the cool kids first.

If you're spending your Christmas in Lagos, then pencil 23rd down for a night with the Mavins as earlier on today at InterContinental Hotel, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, D'Prince, Dija and Reekado Banks made the announcement.

Tiwa Savage and Korede Bello were unavoidably absent but the former gave a statement expressing her joy.
"I can't wait to thrill my fans at the concert and appreciate them for all their goodwill messages during my sojourn to motherhood. It's going to be exciting performing on stage with my label colleagues and I just can't wait.”

Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi moderated the event where Dr Sid explained why three years after its inception, foremost music label Mavin Records is now holding a special concert.
"Our fans have always been here for us through thick and thin. Without them, there will be no Mavin Record Label or Don Jazzy or Dr. Sid. What could be a better way to appreciate their loyalty over the years than this?"

Don Jazzy has promised there will be live performances and special surprise appearances, plus, to answer the safety question on everyone's lips, high level of security.
I asked Di'ja and Reekado Banks how they, being two of the new kids on the block, felt and they both said they were excited and can't wait to 'bring it' for the fans.

Honestly, neither can I!
I am curious, other than the Mavins, which other artistes would you like to see perform at the Mavin Concert?

Sunday

#SPEECHgirl x Short Story Sunday "One of those Days'

He heard the alarm, but that only made him want to smash the damn thing and sleep some more. He had actually done things like that in the past which was why his last girlfriend had bought him three different alarm clocks, and placed them all around his room; there was no way he could get at them, put them off, and still go back to bed. Damn pretty women with brains.

He got up reluctantly and put them all off and then sat at the edge of the bed for a bit trying hard to will himself to take the shower. Last night’s activities must have been really been something because for some reason, he dozed off again! This time, with no alarms at the ready to wake him up, the next time he woke up was with a sinking feeling- he was late.

Jide looked at the time. 7.30am. That wasn’t good because in Lagos, the difference between 6a.m and 7a.m was like... well let's just say he was in shit creek with no paddle.

Someone stirred and he looked at the reason he was late. Well, even if he got a warning, it would be well worth it, for if Jide Omisade had one weakness, it was pretty girls with beautiful bodies, and wit.

The shower didn’t take him that long, and neither did dressing up.Today was easy, he was going to work, meeting with a client, then having drinks with another one of his friend’s that was betraying bachelorhood; so, his light blue shirt with chinos, black belt, tie and shoes, and some ‘Old Spice’ to charm the client. It was now 8a.m but he was sure with some creative thinking (he’d blame a flat tyre), and some creative driving (he was known as the king of 360 degrees turns right from secondary school), he could still get away with it.
As for the vision in satin on her bed, he knew she would let herself out and not call him till the next time her dead-beat boyfriend went out of town and she needed ‘to talk’ And talking was one thing he was great at.

So wrapped up was he in his plans that he forgot not to count his chicks till they were hatched. There, right in front of him was karma punishing him for even thinking of lying to his boss. Not only did he have TWO flat-tyres with no jack in his car, but he now remembered his happy and alcoholic self letting his brother ‘borrow’ his spare tyre the night before. “Shit!” What to do? He had to think fast. He made a few calls, but he was just too late and his colleagues living in that area had left already. Well at least, he was sure of a ride back. He checked his physical cash, paltry. No cab driver carried a pos machine around that’s for sure. He quickly legged it to the nearest bank and tried the A.T.M. Damn! What was up today? The damn machine was faulty! What was he going to do?

He stood there thinking. He could try to get to another bank, or, he could…
“Yaba! Yaba!”
…He could get into that bus. Okay, the last time he got into a bus was when he was in his first year at university and he now worked in a company where you were judged based on what car you drove and whether your shoes where by some designer with an unpronounceable name so really, bus-hopping was frowned upon. Sometimes you’re desperate though. And sometimes, you look into the bus and you see a pretty girl with long hair sitting by the window, with the seat beside her vacant and suddenly, your choice is made. He’d just get down and walk the rest of the way to work; no one would ever know.

He got in and headed straight where his brain, well the other one anyway, led him to, right beside her. He only hoped to God that her voice would match her face, and wow, see that cleavage. Maybe it was divine that he had a flat. “Don’t you just hate Monday mornings?” He prayed she would give a half-decent reply. Even if she wasn’t witty, charming or funny, all he needed was some indication that she wasn’t all bad. “Personally, I think Sunday evenings suck. It’s like Mondays become the anti-climax, and every girl loves a climax”.
That’s it, he was getting married.

She was not only funny, but also a good listener, rare for girls. He told her about how late he was for work and why he was on that bus, and she told him nothing, but listened and smiled a lot. And the journey would have been perfect had it not been for that one little snag.

He wasn’t sure where they were exactly, but he was sure that he hated the next words he heard. “Eyin te mi, oya, ibon re o”. He heard the words, and could see like five guys suddenly standing up and brandishing weapons, but it didn’t sink in properly until the slaps began.
“I don’t believe this, are they for real?” He asked her stupidly. Wasn’t it girls that asked stupid questions?
“It would seem, they look serious” She replied needlessly.
He felt the need to protect her, impress her. He leaned over and whispered, “I have a tazer you know, and we will be fine”
“And lucky me, I know some judo”
“You seem pretty calm for someone who is about to get robbed, or even worse.”
“Well, I have been known to work well under pressure. Besides, you haven’t noticed, have you?
“Noticed what?”
She leaned into him and whispered right back. “I’m with them”.
And then the lights went off.

“Oga, get up! Get up!”
He could hear voices. Some were directed at him, but others were just all around. He had a splitting headache but struggled to open his eyes. He was on the ground somewhere, and people were staring at him; he also seemed to have, at some point, been drenched with water. At least he hoped it was water.
“E don open im eyes oh”, he heard as some people left, while others gathered still. “Oga. You well?” a young boy asked him. Then he remembered everything. “Wetin happen?” He asked. This was not the time for his Prep School English; some good ol’ pidgin was needed. “Na one chance oh! E be like say you enter one chance”

Ah yes, of course. The bus, the thugs, and the beautiful wench with the uppercut, or whatever that was she had done to him. He looked around, nothing. Checked his pockets. Nothing. They had taken everything; his watch, wallet, shoes…everything.

“Make you try stand oga, make you go see Doctor”
.
“Thank you” He mumbled as he got on his feet, his head still throbbing. A policeman came towards him. “Your lucky shine o, na only you dem drop, dem come drive off again.” The police-man seemed more interested in the gist than in say, maybe asking questions like how many they were and where the bus was headed. Whatever, he wasn’t surprised, and he was kinda grateful; I could be worse, they could hold him for questioning.
“Abi you go come give statement? You remember anyone of dem?”. Tall, white shirt and grey pants, red lipstick and a killer smile. “I no see dem well o, make I go hospital, e be like say my back dey pain me, as dem trow me…” There was no way he was going to a police station in Nigeria. No one was asking yet, but what if there was the lone smart officer who would wonder, “How come you were the only one they let off the bus?”. He could hazard a guess and he foolishly thought to himself about how he might not have minded if she had held on to him for a few hours and ‘tortured’ him. But wait, what if her other friends, them with the biceps and guns, wanted in on the action as well? So, no statements, all he lost was money and shoes; oh but those shoes!

He had to call his brother. Funny, the policeman actually lent him his phone, so he called his brother. Thirty minutes and several pure waters later, he was in a car, being driven to the clinic, and then, he would go to work. Yeah, he might have just faced an ordeal but where he worked, unless you were dead or buried alive, you showed up at work and recuperated there.

The nurse at the hospital was actually really pretty. Dare he hope..?

“O what a pitied, they ‘ave ‘urt you”, she said. If they were pretty, they didn’t speak well. If they were pretty and spoke well, they were armed robbers.
Go figure.

“Wetin be dis?” She asked as she helped him take his shirt off. He had not felt it before but there it was, his sim wrapped in a small piece of paper, taped to his shirt. He took it and out it in his pocket, and then he noticed there was a note on the note.

“Get a new line, maybe I’ll give you a call. I have your card after all”.

He didn’t know if that was good or bad, but somehow, that just made his brain tingle.
Yes,
the other brain.

#SkincareSaturday Three things to do for your skin this weekend!

Ideally, we should pamper ourselves every day.  Unfortunately, with the hustle and bustle that is Lagos, we usually end up with at best, ...
